Wham! bam, thank you Ric! This was the year when I really started getting into popular music, so many of these tunes hold a lot of great memories. My wife loved Jack Wagner back then (as did everyone, apparently). And I’ve recently become obsessed with Laura Branigan’s “Self Control”! As always, I enjoy finding artists here with whom I’m unfamiliar – Windjammer?
A bit of personal trivia: “One Night In Bangkok” was my first 12″ single (not entirely sure I should have admitted that…)
Oh Oh Oh!
Oh Oh Oh!
Oh Oh Oh!
Oh Oh Oh!
I’m glad you managed to hop on the pop train in 1984, because I think that is the best year in Pop!
That Windjammer ballad may be too sappy for you, but the missus may like it.
As for One Night In Bangkok…the line “And if you’re lucky then the god’s a she” gave me sniggers back then.
Why the new obsession with Self Control? Are you having too much of it? Of lacking too much of it? LOL!
I think perhaps I have too much self control and need to let loose and speak my mind more often 😉
By the way, I still remember every line of “One Night In Bangkok” – it’s one of those tunes like “West End Girls” that I can bust out from beginning to end at any time.
As I recall, pop started to get REALLY cheesy in 1985 – looking forward to that list!
Ditto Chris!
I can mumble my way through West End Girls and One Night In Bangkok too! The kids these days have it easy! Not much to memorize when it comes to songs like Boom Boom Pow or Harlem Shake. LOL!
You want some cheese? Your dairy fix is coming up shortly!!! But Grace Jones may have something to say about that opinion of yours. She might even rough you up, and I think she can. Hell, I think she can beat us both up….at the same time!!!
Yeah, I wouldn’t tangle with Grace Jones – a bit scary, ain’t she?!
